Gilbert Fresh 48 Photographer | Saylor

You guys, how amazing is my job? I get to watch all of these families welcome their newest baby’s into the world and capture all the emotions as they adapt to their new normal. Seriously, it doesn’t get any better than this.

Truth be told, I use to loathe fresh 48 sessions. Nothing ever went as planned, babies were un-poseable, parents were awkward, and the lighting was just terrible – I just didn’t love them at all. But over this past year I really pushed myself to understand what I didn’t like, and change it.

babies were un-poseable – so don’t pose them. position them where you need, and shoot real life.

parents were awkward – doesn’t matter. hand them the baby and capture all the “awkward” because it’s actually really beautiful.

the lighting was just terrible – so don’t use lights. turn them all off and utilize that gorgeous natural light.

Once I changed my mindset, I fell head over heels for fresh 48’s. I love the candid moments. I prefer families to act like I’m not even there and just shoot away. Ever since I did that, my work drastically got better, and my clients love their images. I’d call that a win!
