What is a Phoenix cake smash session?

A cake smash session in Phoenix is exactly what it sounds like, a session to smash cake to celebrate a birthday! I’ve done cake smashes up to age three, so it doesn’t have to be just for their first birthday either. These sessions are just a great way to document a birthday milestone.

When should you book your cake smash session?

I completely understand how you can get lost in that first year, everything is going so quickly and a lot of days blur together! By the time you’re thinking of scheduling their cake smash session, you’re worried you waited too long. It’s okay! My favorite time to book your cake smash session in Phoenix is around 6-8 months old. This gives us plenty of time to plan your setup, and discuss any ideas you have. When the actual session takes place is around 10-11 months old, this ensures you’ll have your images back by their actual birthday, or birthday party!

How do you choose the theme for your cake smash session?

Throughout the booking process we’ll discuss your thoughts and ideas for the session. Do you want the setup to match their birthday party theme? Do you want to do a theme based off something they’re loving at the moment? Or do you want a clean and simple setup? Pinterest is a great resource to start gathering ideas for your smash setup.

However, keep in mind I won’t mimic another setup. Part of the reason you’re looking at using me as your Phoenix cake smash photographer is because you like my style of work. Having the creative control to apply to my setups is the part that makes my work unique.

What should you expect from the session?

I won’t go into too much detail here, because I save that for the booking process. I don’t gate-keep, but I do reserve all of my secrets for my clients, that’s partly what the booking fee is for! I want my clients to feel the most prepared for their session, and I try to make that as stress-free as possible. Down to the basics though, assuming you selected a full theme cake smash package, upon arrival we’ll start with the portraits before baby gets all messy. After that, we jump into the cake smash portion, and then finish with their bubble bath.
