Some hospitals do have on-site photographer services for fresh 48 sessions, and not to sound like a photographer snob, but those photographers don’t exactly know what they’re doing. Finding a baby hospital photographer who specializes in hospital shoots is what you’re looking for, whether it’s birth or fresh 48. You want someone who is familiar with the hospital lighting, or lack there of. 

As a professional baby hospital photographer in Phoenix, I prefer to shoot all of my fresh 48 hospital sessions in natural light only. Which means you’re really relying on good windows in the room, and if there isn’t good natural light you have to know how to navigate it. But, when you do get good lighting it’s absolute gold! Birth sessions absolutely depend on the time of day, overnight births can be very tricky if you’re not familiar with off camera flash.
